‘Asta Bowen

‘Asta Bowen is an author from Somers, Montana.  Her newspaper column, “Peace Correspondent,” ran in the opinion pages of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for more than a decade.

Her first book, The Huckleberry Book (Farcountry Press, 1988), is a nonfiction account of “everything you ever wanted to know about huckleberries, but your mouth was too full to ask.”  Over 30 years later, it remains one of the top-selling works on the subject.

Wolf: The Journey Home (Bloomsbury USA, 2006), is the fictionalized story of wolves who returned on their own to the Northern Rockies before the Yellowstone reintroduction, as imagined from the animals’ perspective.

Bowen is a member of the Authors Guild and the Montana Playwrights Network. For over 25 years she taught high school English; along with writing, she is active in music and nonprofit initiatives.

She has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and a master’s in teaching from Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR.
