Given the legalese of the Wilderness Act, there is one way to provide access to mountain bikes in these areas ... Repeal the Wilderness Act and remove capital-W-Wilderness boundaries in the places you want mechanized travel allowed.

The Wilderness Act is one of the most ableist, exclusionary, and discriminatory laws in the Federal Register today. Repeal the Wilderness Act, get bike access.

Today's mountain bikes are just dirt bikes with glucose-powered motors, anyway. If the mountain bikes get in, the dirt bikes should be allowed, too - they just use a different kind of fuel.

Hell, anyone supporting this effort should go take a hike on one of Colorado's trails along the Front Range and see if you still support mountain bikes in Wilderness areas ... may the games begin.

The wilderness should remain wilderness. Yo state the obvious, that is the point of The Wilderness Act. The addition of mountain bikes would compromise the wilderness. There are many bike trails available without the incursion on the wilderness.

When I was younger, I reveled in hiking and backpacking in the wilderness areas of Wyoming. I would like the wilderness areas to remain just that: wild and free from biking and ATVs.

Then go ride your bike into the grocery store to shop, into church to worship, and into your workplace to work. There are thousands of trails on public land where you can ride, so quit with your dumb argument that you are being “denied access to public land “. I’ll fight you every step of the way, along with millions of supporters. Get a clue dude. You are a very small misguided minority.

Thank you so much for your beautiful defense of our wilderness heritage. I have lobbied Congress on three occasions to establish and expand the Siskiyou Wilderness in Northern California, but am also pushing for mountain bike trails outside of wilderness. There should never be any justification for riding bicycles in wilderness, especially with all of the new electrification technologies for bikes. Our wilderness trails are fragile enough without mountain bikers ripping across them. Long live the Wilderness Act, without any amendments!

I'm in favor of leaving the wilderness intact. Now that I am too old and infirm to backpack, I wish there could be trail access for wheeled vehicles for the 1st mile so that I could at least get away from cars. Then a bulldozed berm could block all but foot access beyond that point

When you post a comment you leave your IP address. Now that you've admitted guilt to a crime, will Writers on the Range turn you in? I hope they do and you pay a fine and maybe some jail time with people of your same ilk.
